Our tour starts at 8:45 am with pick-up from your central city accommodation, or Seymour Square. Driving south over Weld Pass we enter Awatere Valley where you can view the highest mountain peak in Marlborough and the highest outside of the Southern Alps - Mt Tapuae-O-Ueneku.
Heading inland we arrive at our first stop Barewood Gardens nestled amongst beautiful countryside it is a garden that is serene, intimate and unique. Recognised as a six-star Garden of International Significance by the New Zealand Garden Trust our hosts Carolyn and Joe Ferraby walk us around their large semi-formal country garden that roams across 4-acres. Their garden is inspired by a quote from Gertrude Jekyll a “garden should curtsy to the house”. Enjoy morning tea with Carolyn and Joe on the veranda of their 100-year-old homestead that is the heart of Barewood.
Saying farewell to Carolyn and Joe we travel a short distance to Tupari Vineyard sitting atop magnificent cliffs with some of the best views in the valley. Enjoy the opportunity to walk among the vineyard with a member of the Turnbull family and learn about their land and vineyard which offers some of the best and most unique growing characteristics. Tupari wines are proud to boast a 0% chemical residue rating bringing you the promise and taste of pure wine that is growing from a genuine care and friendship with their land.
We continue to Aspen farm to view the magnificent Wapiti deer and learn of the development happening on the farm.
Following, enjoy lunch and wine tasting at The Station Café the old railway station situated on the main trunk line.
Our journey continues to Paripuma a native haven where we meet our host, Rosa Davidson. Rosa will show us her extensive 4-hectare garden which marries formal European design with New Zealand native plantings and unobstructed views over the Pacific Ocean. A magical beachside paradise.
