When it comes to attractions in Akaroa, the town’s charm is a big part of the draw. Akaroa was once a French settlement, and you can still see that influence in the street names, food, and building styles. Walking through the town feels like stepping into a mix of a French village and the Kiwi coast.
The historic lighthouse, located just outside the town, is a great photo spot and a reminder of the area’s past. The Akaroa Museum is small but filled with interesting stories and local treasures. If you like gardens, the Giants House is a must-see. It’s filled with colourful mosaic sculptures and creative landscaping that feels like stepping into a fantasy world.
A walk along the waterfront is also a simple pleasure, with calm water, boats, and plenty of spots to sit with an ice cream or coffee. The natural beauty and rich history make Akaroa a relaxing and memorable place to visit.
