Fox Glacier is one of the most famous attractions in New Zealand’s South Island. This glacier flows down from the Southern Alps into thick rainforest, making it very special. Nearby, the Franz Josef Glacier offers similar stunning views and is just a short drive away. Lake Matheson is another popular attraction in Fox Glacier. On calm days, its water reflects the snow-covered peaks of Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mt Tasman like a perfect mirror.
Gillespies Beach is a peaceful spot to walk and watch the sunset with mountains on one side and the Tasman Sea on the other. The Fox Glacier South Side Walkway offers a chance to explore old glacier land and see changing forest life. At night, you can visit the Terrace Walk to see glowworms lighting up the dark forest.
