Tourist Information About Hokianga

Hokianga is a quiet and scenic part of Northland. It is known for its strong Māori heritage, peaceful harbour, and natural beauty. The area is less busy than other parts of the region, which makes it perfect for a calm visit. The harbour is large and still, with small towns like Ōpononi and Rāwene sitting along its edges. You can walk along the waterfront, enjoy the views, or catch a short ferry across the harbour. The town of Rāwene also has art galleries and old wooden buildings that reflect its history.

Hokianga is close to the Waipoua Forest, where you can visit some of the largest kauri trees in New Zealand. These trees are sacred and deeply important in Māori culture. Walking among them is a peaceful and powerful experience. There are also cultural centres and guided tours that share the stories of the land, the people, and their connection to nature.

If you enjoy quiet coastal towns, history, and natural beauty, Hokianga is a great place to explore.
