The attractions in Horowhenua are a mix of nature, history, and culture. One of the most scenic spots is Lake Papaitonga. Surrounded by native bush, this peaceful lake is also home to wetland birds and walking paths. In Foxton, Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom is a special place where two cultures meet.
Inside, you’ll find a museum about Dutch settlers and another that tells the story of local Māori communities. Outside, there’s a real windmill named De Molen. You can walk inside, watch it work, and even buy flour milled on site. The historic Foxton Courthouse and MAVtech (Museum of Audio and Visual Technology) also give you a look at the region’s past. Another local highlight is the Opiki Suspension Bridge.
Though no longer in use, it stands tall as a memory of early farming days. For nature lovers, the estuary at Foxton Beach is great for spotting birds and taking photos.
