Enjoy a 30 minute cruise across lake Wanaka to reach the island of Mou Waho. Step off the boat onto the predator free island & nature reserve. Try and spot the Buff Weka, extinct on mainland NZ since 1920. Enjoy a guided walk to the top of the island where you will discover Arethusa's pool. The lake on an island, on a lake, on an island!

Enjoy morning or afternoon tea with panoramic views of lake Wanaka & the southern Alps. On our return walk to the boat, your guide will help you find the perfect spot to plant your very own native tree! This is a great way to give back to the unique ecosystem on the island.

  • Wanaka Marina, Lakeside Road, Wānaka 9305, New Zealand
    Eco Adventures Wanaka Boat leaves from the Jetty next to the Marina on Lakeside Road. It is next to the Wanaka Yacht Club and Public boat ramps and is the first turn off on the Left on Lakeside Road coming from the Roundabout in town.
    Please meet your Eco Adventure Guide at the Wanaka Marina, 10 minutes before your departure time. There is 4 hours of free parking at the Wanaka Marina, but this is limited. Please consider a short walk from town, or if parking is full, turn left out of the marina, keep left on Lakeside Road where there is free roadside parking (after the broken yellow line, park next to the grass).

Group size: 10 per guide
The Mou Waho track has some rocky sections that will require you to use balance and place your feet securely.
Follow your guide's instructions. Trekking poles can be a huge help. We provide these free of charge.
Wear good walking shoes or boots, bring a water bottle, a day backpack, and a sunhat or rain jacket, depending on the weather.

Accessibility: Walking is not suitable for Wheelchairs or strollers.

No, there are no restrooms on the vessels or in the vehicles. On Mou Waho Island, there is a basic composting toilet near the track.

Yes, bringing a camera or phone for photos is encouraged.

Each guide can accommodate a maximum of 10 participants.
