Experience the excitement of outdoor rock climbing at Maungarei Springs in Auckland. Tackle natural rock formations that cater to all skill levels, from beginner-friendly routes to challenging climbs for the more experienced.

Your adventure begins at Maungarei Springs, near the volcanic cone of Maungarei/Mount Wellington, where you’ll meet your guide and gear up with helmets, harnesses, and climbing shoes.

Scale the area’s unique basalt and columnar rock faces, offering a variety of climbing routes. As you climb, take in the stunning scenery, including lush greenery and breathtaking views of the city and harbor.

The climbing spots are well-maintained, featuring bolted routes for added safety and convenience. Whether you're a beginner practicing top-roping or an advanced climber tackling trad-lead-multipitching, your guide will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

Hazards and Risks
Adventurous activities involve inherent hazards and potential risks, often coupled with the severity of hazards and the likelihood of risks.

Hazard: ‘anything’ that can cause harm. Hazards might be rocks, trees, water (drowning, floods), wildlife, humans, heights (falls, falling objects), machines, tools, weather (hypothermia).

Risk: the potential of something happening. Risks could be death, serious injury and/or emotional harm.

Adventurous activities offered by SNM could be dangerous if they’re not approached with care and responsibility. Participation in such activities is voluntary and not compulsory.

Hazards and risks are managed using a hierarchy of controls to choose the most effective control measures starting with elimination, then minimisation, substitution and isolation. Further measures take on administration controls and personal protective equipment if risks and hazards remain.

Good weather is required for this experience. If we need to cancel due to poor weather, you'll be offered a different date or a full refund.
