Akaroa is a small coastal town where you can enjoy a mix of relaxing and exciting things to do. One of the most popular activities in Akaroa is taking a harbour cruise. These boat trips give you a chance to see rare Hector’s dolphins, fur seals, and even little blue penguins.
If you like being more active, you can rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore the calm waters at your own pace. There are also plenty of scenic walking tracks in the area, like the Banks Track or the Garden of Tane, which takes you through peaceful forest paths. If you want something fun and educational, head to the Akaroa Museum to learn about the town’s French roots.
You can also join a cooking class or take a guided nature tour around the peninsula. Whether you’re on the water or exploring the hills, Akaroa gives you a mix of quiet and adventure.
