Tourist Information About Stargazing in West Auckland

The west is wild and remote with untamed beauty, where lush native rainforest plunges down the hills to where the Tasman Sea's mighty surf pounds onto dramatic black sand beaches. Although you'll feel a world away, many of these beautiful beaches are less than an hour from the city centre, making them ideal day trip destinations. Popular with experienced surfers and swimmers, and with hundreds of kilometres of walking trails meandering through native forest. Many attractions are here, with huge gannet colonies lining the cliffs and New Zealand fur seals patrolling the beaches. Inland is where you'll find Auckland's oldest established vineyards, market gardens, and local artists.
