We're the Bay of Islands' only dedicated snorkeling experience. Hop in for an epic underwater adventure filled with countless fish varieties. Small groups with no waiting around for the scuba divers Our trips feature two fantastic spots, with up to 1.5 hours of in water exploration. The primary focus is the No take zone of Deep Water Cove, known for its clear waters and diverse marine life. Explore archways, marvel at underwater wonders, and have fun with playful fish. We provide wetsuits for added comfort in the warm waters, as well as a hot water rinse and a cup of soup post-dip.

Full Description

Be picked up from either Russell or Paihia wharves and begin your adventure with a full briefing on what’s in store. Enjoy the scenic 35-minute journey out to the snorkelling spots of Deep Water Cove, a protected Rahui reserve where fishing is not allowed. Along the way, pass by beautiful islands and hear fascinating commentary from our passionate local guides.

Once you arrive, getting into the water is easy via the drop-down platform, and exiting is just as simple. Dive in and meet a dazzling array of fish in vibrant underwater gardens—so many varieties you’ll be grinning from ear to ear. Explore an archway swim with stunning colou...

Meeting Point

Arrival time: Be at the pick-up point at least 15 minutes before departure.

Pick-Up Details

Russell:  Usually on Pier 3 or 5.  Parking: Best near the school for a few hours

Trip times: One trip per day at 9:00 am, or two trips per day at 8:00 am & 1:15 pm

 

Paihia: Usually on Pier 11.  Parking: Free along the waterfront south of the wharf

Trip times: One trip per day at 9:15 am, or two trips per day at 8:15 am & 1:00 pm

Important Information for Your Snorkelling Trip

Apply sunscreen before arriving: Please put on sunscreen at least 15–20 minutes before your trip so it absorbs properly and doesn’t wash off into the reef. Applying sunscreen on the boat creates slippery surfaces and can be hazardous.

Travel tips: Travel light, wear your swimmers/togs under your clothes, and use a toilet before arriving.

Cancellation policy

Full refund if cancelled up to 48 hours before activity starts.

Good weather is required for this experience. If we need to cancel due to poor weather, you'll be offered a different date or a full refund.

There is a minimum number of travellers for this experience. If the minimum isn't met and we need to cancel, we will offer a different date/experience or a full refund.

Please be honest with your health and swimming abilities. rnAny concerns, talk to us.rnWe can provide a personal assistance and floatation aid for those less confident in water, even just a pool noodle makes such a difference. Snorkelling in calm waters from an anchored boat provides a no pressure situation. rnWe have a well-equipped first aid kit and our crew are fully trained in all situations. The waters here in NZ are safe waters to swim in, without the regular dangers that other countries have to worry about. rnRegistered with Maritime NZ, we comply with the health and safety on the water regulations, and we carry on board all forms of communication and equipment required.

Is the tour suitable for children and beginners?

Yes. This is a guided experience with equipment and instruction provided, making it very beginner-friendly. 

What should I bring with me on the day of the tour?

The tour includes snorkeling gear (full wetsuits, hoods, masks, snorkels, fins), but you’re also welcome to bring your own (clean and sand-free). 

What happens if the weather is poor on the day of the tour?

The tour may be rescheduled or refunded at short notice for safety reasons.

Is there a minimum number of travelers required, and what happens if it isn’t met?

Yes, a minimum number of travelers is required. If the minimum isn’t met and we need to cancel, we will offer a different date, an alternative experience, or a full refund.
 

What should I bring for the tour?

You are recommended to bring swimwear, hat, camera, and warm clothing.
 

What is your cancellation policy?
