Drive Through Bombay Hills Into Waikato Region

The Bombay Hills are a range of hills to the south of Auckland, New Zealand. Though only a small and seemingly insignificant range of hills, they lie at the southern boundary of the Auckland region, and serve as a divide between Auckland and the Waikato region. directly named after the ship Bombay, The ship itself was named after the Indian city of Bombay (now Mumbai). Bombay Means: a breed of black short-haired medium-sized cat.

Meet your specialist caving guides, receive your equipment and complete a safety briefing before entering Ruakuri Cave. Wearing a wetsuit, helmet and suitable footwear, follow the winding route through limestone passages, negotiate small waterfall jumps and float on an inner tube beneath thousands of glowworms. Active sections give way to quieter stretches where you can appreciate the tiny lights overhead. Your guides share stories about the cave, its formations and the glowworms that inhabit it, with sweet treats providing a welcome pause along the way.

Emerge into Waitomo’s native bush and freshen up with a hot shower before enjoying an included café-style lunch. With the adventure complete, rejoin your Guest Experience Host for a relaxed return to Auckland in your private vehicle, with time for a comfort break or photographs along the route.

Minimum weight restriction of 45kg+ apply.

Guides at Waitomo reserve the right to refuse to take anyone into the cave that they consider to be unsuited for the tour (e.g. physically incapable or too small). No refunds are provided in these circumstances.

No caving experience is needed!

You do need to be comfortable in the water, however swimming is not a necessity. You will have a tube to aid you in floating as well as expert guides.

Each participant requested to complete a disclosure document and provide information relation to health, physicality, impairments, and water preparedness.
