Your day bag, layers of warm clothing, windproof jacket, shoes that are easily removable, swimwear & towel, your own water bottle, plenty of sunscreen (SPF 30+ is best), sun hat, sunglasses, and your camera!

Cancellation policy

Full refund if cancelled up to 24 hours before activity starts.

Good weather is required for this experience. If we need to cancel due to poor weather, you'll be offered a different date or a full refund.

There is a minimum number of travellers for this experience. If the minimum isn't met and we need to cancel, we will offer a different date/experience or a full refund.

Check In
Please ensure that you check in at least 30 minutes prior to your sailing departure. Departure times vary according to the tour purchased. It is the customers sole responsibility to seek out correct departure and check in information upon booking.

Cancellations
Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures reserve the right to reschedule, reroute or cancel a trip due to weather, customer safety, if minimum numbers are not reached, or for other reasons. The minimum numbers for our scheduled day sailing tours are 4 -6 Adults (trip dependent); private charter tours may be arranged if such a cancellation should occur. Cancellations on sailing tours made by Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures will be refunded as per time affected.

If a change to your booking is required, please contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to meet your needs, however we reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee if any part of the activity is cancelled as per the terms described below. Transaction fees may also apply.

Cancellation Scheduled Day Tours
Customers booked on scheduled day tours who cancel with more than 24 hours before sailing departure will receive a full refund. Customer cancellations made within 24 hours of departure result in no refund of bookings made.

Lunches
There are no shops of cafes visited once on board in the Abel Tasman National Park, it is the customers responsibility to ensure that meals are included in their chosen tour, or they have bought their own. Lunches must be ordered at time of booking, including noting any dietary restrictions. Whilst we try to accommodate most notified special dietary requirements, this is not always possible. Lunches ordered are non-refundable or transferable.

Safety
The skipper is responsible for all safety decisions. All skippers are commercially qualified and are Maritime New Zealand certified. They are certified First Aiders. All vessels are Maritime New Zealand surveyed. They are externally audited to ensure systems and operating procedures are of highest standards. There is a documented maintenance program and all gear is maintained regularly. Clients must inform Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures of any pre-existing medical conditions that may affect their enjoyment or time on board, prior to trip departure. Adults must ensure children in their care follow the instructions of the skipper. Skipper’s instructions must be followed at all times.

Weather
Overcast, drizzle or rain will not mean cancellation of the trip. We expect clients to honor their booking. We reserve the right to reschedule, reroute or cancel a trip due to weather, customer safety or other reasons. If we cancel the trip we will refund the time affected. For cancelled trips we will try to re-book on an alternative day. We cannot guarantee that there will be sufficient wind for sailing on your chosen day with us, however we will endeavor to reroute the day to focus on sightseeing and other activities.

Liability
All care will be taken by Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures when handling client’s equipment and belongings. Abel Tasman Sailing Adventures accepts no responsibility for any loss or additional expenses arising from changes, delays or cancellations of the services and activities of the tours. Under all circumstances the client is responsible for their personal equipment and belongings, we recommend clients have their own up-to-date travel insurance arrangements in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Do I need sailing experience to join the tour?

No prior sailing experience is required. 

Is there a restroom or bathroom onboard the boat?

Yes. The catamaran is equipped with toilets, so you can comfortably stay aboard throughout the trip. 

Is this sailing trip suitable for elderly participants?

The tour is designed to be accessible for all participants, including the elderly.

When is the best time to sail the Abel Tasman?

Sailboats run daily in the sunny summer season, which lasts from November to April each year.

What happens if it rains or the bad weather on that day ?

Poor weather means cancellation or rescheduling, with a full refund offered if conditions are unsafe.
 

What should I bring for the sailing tour?
