Haast is a great place for people who enjoy nature and outdoor fun. You can go on a jet boat tour with Haast River Safari or Waiatoto River Safari and ride through wide rivers surrounded by forests and mountains. Helicopter tours also take you to remote places like glaciers and alpine lakes where few people ever go. T
here are some nice short walks too, like the ones to Thunder Creek Falls and Fantail Falls. These tracks are easy and give you great views of waterfalls and native bush. If you enjoy fishing, the rivers around Haast are full of trout and whitebait, especially in spring. Mountain biking and walking along the Kōkako Cycleway are great ways to see the coastline.
And for something more challenging, there’s the old Haast-Paringa Cattle Track, which takes a few days to walk. You can stay overnight in huts along the way. Whether you want to take it slow or try something adventurous, activities in Haast offer something for every kind of traveller.
