Haast has some beautiful places to see. One of the best-known spots is the Gates of Haast, where the river rushes through a narrow rocky gorge. Not far from there, you’ll find Thunder Creek Falls and Roaring Billy Falls, both easy to reach and great for photos.
Another lovely place is Ship Creek. It has boardwalks through a swamp forest, a quiet beach, and views of the sea. You might even see Hector’s dolphins or fur seals nearby. If you want a peaceful walk, the Kōkako Walkway leads through the forest and out to the coast. Jackson Bay is also worth a visit. It’s a small fishing village where you can spot penguins and enjoy fresh seafood at the café.
Birdwatchers will enjoy looking for native birds like fantails, tui, and kaka in the forest areas. The attractions in Haast are all about waterfalls, beaches, wildlife, and quiet nature, perfect if you want to get away from crowds and enjoy the outdoors.
