There are many unique sights around Rotorua that you won’t find anywhere else. Te Puia is home to the famous Pōhutu Geyser, which erupts regularly and shoots steam high into the air. There are bubbling mud pools and brightly colored mineral terraces at Wai-O-Tapu, one of the most photographed geothermal parks in the country.
If you head into the Redwood Forest, there are towering trees, hanging bridges, and a treetop walk that lights up at night. There are peaceful spots too, like the Government Gardens near Lake Rotorua, with walking paths and a historic bathhouse building. Just outside the city, there are lakes where you can swim, paddle, or take a boat cruise.
At Rainbow Springs, there are kiwi birds, native reptiles, and a fun log flume ride through native bush. Cape Whakarewarewa and the Buried Village offer a closer look at Rotorua’s volcanic past, with stories from the Tarawera eruption. From geothermal wonders to cultural landmarks, there’s always something to see.
