Milford Sound is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful spots. It’s part of Fiordland National Park, and everything here feels big and untouched. The first thing you’ll notice is Mitre Peak. This sharp mountain rises straight out of the water and looks amazing from every angle.
Two of the best-known waterfalls here are Stirling Falls and Bowen Falls. They flow all year, but when it rains, more waterfalls appear down the cliffs. It’s one of the few places where rain actually makes the view even better.
The drive to Milford Sound is also special. You’ll pass through the Homer Tunnel, which cuts right through a mountain. Along the way, there are forests, rivers, and big mountain views that make the journey just as memorable as the destination.
Once you arrive, you can check out the Milford Discovery Centre and Underwater Observatory. It’s a floating platform where you can see deep-sea life like black coral and fish without diving in.
