Kaikōura is home to sperm whales year-round, as well as a popular migratory and feeding route for many other species of whales and dolphins. From the air, passengers can experience the true magnitude of the world’s largest mammal, the whale. These animals can reach an impressive 18 meters in length and weigh up to 60 tonnes!
Wings Over Whales Kaikōura operates high-winged aircraft, which allows each person their own window seat and optimal, unobstructed viewing. All Kaikoura whale watching flights are carried out in accordance with the Department of Conservation Marine Mammal Regulations.

Please check 30 minutes prior to your flight time at the main terminal of the Kaikoura Airport, located just a 7-minute drive south of Kaikoura township. Here, our friendly staff will guide you through our electronic check-in system before carrying out your safety and whale briefings.
Please note, a free shuttle service to the airport is available should you need it, but must be arranged at least 24 hours before your scheduled flight time.
There is a lot of free parking available at the airport.

The most commonly sighted whale is the Sperm Whale, which is present year-round due to the deep underwater Kaikōura Canyon.
