Lord of the Rungs Waterfall Climb - Level 1

Now is your chance to climb a waterfall. Level 1 is our shortest and easiest climb option. In just a few hours, you will learn all you need to know to safely ascend steel rungs and cross 4 suspension bridges as you make your way up the lower section of the waterfall. This tour includes approximately 1 hour of climbing and a 20 minute walk down. No previous experience is required, just an adventurous spirit.

Full Description

Lord of the Rungs is the world’s highest waterfall cable climb. Reaching the top will take you through 450m of vertical terrain. 

With 3 levels to choose from, there are options to suit the ability of every adventurer. No experience is needed on any of our climbs.

Meeting Point

Meet us at the waterfall. Drive approximately 20minutes from Wanaka towards Mt Aspiring National Park. After 20minutes you will see 2 large waterfalls on the left. When you go over a cattle stop, you will be directly in front of the waterfalls. Please meet us at the gate leading to the waterfall.

If you hit a gravel road or the Treble Cone skifield road, you have gone too far. 

Additional Information

Please dress for the weather in comfortable outdoor style clothes and wear sturdy walking shoes with grip.

Here is a list of other items you may wish to bring along:

Small backpack, Fingerless gloves such as bike gloves, A water bottle, Small camera, Sunglasses,Sun protection (hat and sun block), Something to swim in (if you love cold water!), A small towel (if you plan to dunk yourself in the waterfall)
Extra snacks if you are feeling hungry.

Restrictions:
Minimum age on our group departures is 10 years for Level 1 and 12 years on Level 2 Please contact us to discuss further, sometimes we can make exceptions for active and confident children. Minimum again for Lord of the Rungs is 15. If you are under 16, you must climb our via ferrata with an adult guardian. There are no upper age limits to this activity.

Minimum height requirements to climb the waterfall is 120cm. There are no maximum height restrictions.

Our minimum weight requirement is 40kgs and our harnesses are rated to a maximum of 120kgs. We recommend those over 100kg have good strength and general fitness.

The maximum waist measurements for our harnesses are 108cm, and leg upper thigh 70cm.

Cancellation policy

Full refund if cancelled up to 24 hours before activity starts.

Good weather is required for this experience. If we need to cancel due to poor weather, you'll be offered a different date or a full refund.

We will offer a full refund if: You have given at least 24hrs notice to cancel. We cancel due to weather, and you cannot reschedule We cancel due to minimum numbers are not reached. Sorry, No refunds will apply to: Cancellations within 24hrs of the departure date. Late arrivals or no shows on the day. Downgrades or deciding not to climb. Please make sure you choose the right climb for you. We reserve the right to cancel trips if minimum numbers are not reached. We reserve the right to cancel if weather or any other situation should demand.
