Step aboard, explore Lake Taupō, and discover its natural beauty and hidden wonders with an eco-friendly cruise with Sail Barbary. No noise, no smelly diesel fumes

Leave your cares and the shoreline behind and set sail across the crystal-blue waters of Lake Taupō. Investigate the hidden bays and beautiful coastline as you enjoy stunning vistas guarded by majestic mountains, enduring witnesses to Taupō’s volcanic past.

Explore the culture, history, and sustainability of the region as you voyage to the Māori Rock Carvings at Mine Bay. We will take you right up close to the 14 metre high face of Ngatoroirangi.  The carvings are only accessible by water.  The main carving is the face of an 800 year old ancestor. The face is surrounded by smaller sculptures depicting ancestors and kaitiaki (guardians). 

Experience Lake Taupō from a unique perspective.

Sit back and relax or jump in and learn to sail. In the summer swimming is encouraged.

Meeting Point

Location Information:

Please be at the boat 15 minutes before we depart to check in and grab a seat. We leave on time. 

Barbary yachts are located at Berth 9 & 10, Redoubt Street, Taupo Boat Harbour, Taupo. The main access to the Taupo Boat Harbour is from Ferry Road (off Lake Terrace, at the southern end of Tongariro Street).

You will find Sail Barbary located in front of STIR Cafe - a little dark grey converted caravan cafe.

Look for the tall green flag with ELECTRIC YACHT in white on it, this is where you need to meet.

Berth numbers are on the dark grey bollards in front of each boat.

Minimum numbers apply: There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative boat, date or full refund.

 

Additional Information

What to Bring: Dress casual, comfortable and warm (layered clothes work best), windproof/showerproof jacket, swimwear and towel (during summer), sunglasses and hat. Accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible, Stroller accessible, Service animals allowed, Near public transportation

Full refund if cancelled up to 24 hours before activity starts.

Good weather is required for this experience. If we need to cancel due to poor weather, you'll be offered a different date or a full refund.
