Full Description

The Taupo return shuttle picks you up from your accommodation if you are central or from the Taupo information centre. You are then taken on a 1.5-hour drive to the start of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing at Mangatepopo car park. You are given a map and an information sheet. You hike for 6-7 hours, and we meet you at the Ketetahi car park in the afternoon to then take you back to your original pick-up location.

Meeting Point

This is to be confirmed as we can pick up from most accommodation places in Taupo town. If you are staying out of town, we will pick you up from the Taupo information centre on Tongariro Street.

Please be at your pick-up location 10 minutes before your pick-up time. There is no contact number in the morning to check out your pick-up spot the day before, and if you have any questions, email us prior to your trip so you are confident with where to wait.

PLEASE NOTE: We require a minimum of 10 people. Trips will be confirmed once we get to this number. If we do not reach this number two days before your trip, you will be offered a transfer to another day that has the required number, a full refund, or the chance to share the shortfall with other people who have booked.

Not as likely, but it could happen, if we do not reach the minimum number to run the shuttles we also may cancel the day before for this reason. Again please check your emails for advice on this.
It is your responsibility to prepare food and clothing appropriate for an alpine all day hike. Do not underestimate how cold, hot, thirsty and hungry you may get. Prepare well and you will have a good day.

It’s moderate to challenging: exposed alpine terrain, steep sections (e.g., the climb to Red Crater), changeable weather, and rocky, uneven ground. You need good fitness, proper gear, and to be prepared for extremes.
